Police officers called to a house fire in Ormskirk uncovered a cannabis farm inside.

On Friday afternoon (June 19), at around 1:15pm, officers were called to a fire at a home on Derby Street.

The fire was caused by overloading plug sockets to light up the cannabis farm inside.

Ormskirk and Rural West Lancs Police officers shared pictures of the 70 plants uncovered along with the following statement: “70 cannabis plants were seized along with a number of other items.

“Enquiries are ongoing to trace the tenant but thankfully the dog from the address was recovered with only very minor injuries.”

Four fire engines were called to the scene and tackled the flames on the first floor of the property.

Firefighters used six breathing apparatus, one hose reel and two ventilation fans.

Smoke spread to neighbouring properties. and fire crews were at the scene for four hours clearing the smoke and making the area safe.
