Vermont Capitol Police got quite the surprise recently after a visitor reported a funny-looking plant sprouting in the front lawn outside of the state’s capitol building. 

It wasn’t until Monday that one of the department’s officers got a chance to inspect the flower beds in front of the state legislature and discovered what actually appears to be a cannabis plant. 

In a statement seen by CNN on Friday, the department said it has “no thoughts on why someone would plant it,” but added “if anyone wants to claim it and let us know why they planted it, we are happy to listen.”

Capitol Police Chief Matthew Romei said the department found over 30 more plants they believe could be cannabis, according to CNN.

However, he said his department doesn’t have plans to test the plants as his office won’t be pursuing criminal charges.
