P28 M worth of marijuana plants in five plantations in Kalinga and Benguet uprooted, burned

CAMP DANGWA, Benguet – A two-day police operation resulted in the discovery of marijuana plants in five plantations in the provinces of Kalinga and Benguet with a combined worth of P28,530,000.

BGen. Mafelino Bazar, regional director of the Police Regional Police Office-Cordillera, said the plantations were discovered by joint operatives of Kalinga Provincial Office (KPPO), Naval Forces Northern Luzon and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) during a two-day operation at the mountainous area in Sito Balay, Barangay Tulgao West and Barangay Loccong in Tinglayan, Kalinga.

The operation dubbed Oplan Summit 2022 resulted in the destruction of a total of 142,500 fully grown marijuana plants (FGMJP) planted in a total land area of 14,250 sq. meters.

In Benguet, a total of 150 pieces of GMJP planted in an estimated land area of 30 sq.m. in Barangay Tacadang, Kibungan town were uprooted. Their estimated worth was P30,000.

Bazar said all marijuana plants were uprooted and burned on-site, adding that he had ordered them to continue the conduct marijuana eradication and identify possible cultivators.
