CEBU, Philippines — Marijuana plants and bricks with an estimated value of P9.8 million were seized in Kalinga and Cebu City in the past two days.

Cebu City Mobile Force Company chief Lt. Col. Dexter Calacar said 19,500 marijuana plants worth P7.8 million were uprooted in Sitio Song-on in Barangay Lusaran yesterday.

No one was arrested in the operation.

In Kalinga, marijuana bricks weighing 17,000 grams worth P2.04 million were seized from two suspected couriers at a checkpoint in Tabuk City in Kalinga on Friday.

Mhark Yuzon, a resident of Tondo, Manila, was arrested. His unidentified companion managed to escape.

Authorities said the suspects, who were in a Toyota Avanza, initially ignored a checkpoint in Barangay Dinakan in Lubuagan town.

When notified on the fleeing suspects, the Tabuk police set up a checkpoint in Barangay Naneng, where the vehicle was intercepted.

Representatives from the Department of Justice, barangay and media witnessed the inventory of the seized marijuana and the other items recovered from the suspects.
