Downtown Peachland is about to get its first non-medicinal cannabis retail store, district council unanimously decided this evening.
The owners of Budding Creations Cannabis Corp have proven successful in their application to open up shop at 5830 Beach Avenue, Unit B, which is located in the same building as The Edgewater Pub.
The business is owned by a family trust consisting of Steve Allison, his wife, Cheryl Allison and daughter, Taylor Christianson; Michael Dyck; Jennifer (Jenny) Trotman; Chris Rollins; and Chrissy Chernoff. All but one member of the ownership structure are Peachland residents who currently work at or own other licensed businesses within the community.
The municipality began accepting applications for cannabis operations in September after a lengthy process to introduce a Cannabis Zoning Regulations Bylaw and update an assortment of supporting bylaws.
The bylaw allows for up to two recreational cannabis retailers as well as individual and commercial cultivation.
The application period closed Oct. 31 and while much interest was generated, only one application was completed, in no small part because proof of an acquired location is required, which is not an easy feat in Peachland.
