Melbourne (FN), Mar. 3 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed his continued decision to prohibit marijuana cultivation, stating that as long as he remains Prime Minister, marijuana cultivation will not be allowed in Cambodia.

The premier spoke on Sunday (Mar. 3) during his meeting with Cambodians in Australia and New Zealand.

“As long as I am Prime Minister, marijuana cultivation will not take place in Cambodia,” Samdech Thipadei underscored.

On that occasion, Samdech Thipadei underlined the strategy to combat drug abuse in Cambodia, particularly its implementation among civil servants and the armed forces. This underscores the significance of initiating drug eradication efforts with civil servants and extending them to other sectors.

Prime Minister Hun Manet added that while some countries allow marijuana cultivation for medicinal purposes, others struggle to regulate it, leading to unauthorized cultivation and distribution.

Samdech Thipadei continued, “Even if the marijuana industry was profitable, Cambodia would focus on cultivating other crops like mangoes and bananas for export instead.”

On the occasion, the premier also shared insights from Singapore, where a significant portion of drug addicts, particularly those under 18, started with marijuana before progressing to other drugs. Therefore, Cambodia remains steadfast in its decision to prohibit marijuana cultivation.
