Police arrest five suspects with Rs. 2.5 million worth Kerala cannabis in Kalpitiya

Nov 16, Colombo: Kalpitiya Police arrested five suspects this morning (Jan. 16) for smuggling Kerala cannabis worth about Rs. 2.5 million from India to Sri Lanka by sea.
A stock of 22 kilos and 475 grams of Kerala cannabis packed in 10 parcels was found during the operation.
Police have arrested a suspect and a woman while transporting four packs of Kerala cannabis on a motorbike last evening. During the interrogation, six such packages were found in the possession of a fisherman and three other suspects. The suspected fisherman has said that the packages were found floating in the sea.
The suspects including a woman, aged between 30 and 50, are residents of Kandakuliya and Kurugampitiya
The suspects are to be produced before the Kalpitiya Magistrate’s Court.
