A man who attempted to flee the scene of a huge cannabis farm in Accrington has been arrested by police.

Officers from the Hyndburn Neighbourhood Policing Team acted on intelligence and stormed the illegal farm on Ormerod Street in the town.

Speaking of the incident yesterday (December 14), police said they seized more than 500 plants at the scene and found the electricty was bypassed.

Lancashire Constabulary confirmed an Albanian man was arrested attempting to flee the property.

He is now being questioned by police.

Police said the incident was “another fantastic effort” of communities and police working together and removing both drugs and criminals from the streets.

A Hyndburn Police spokesperson said: “On Monday 14th December officers from Hyndburn Neighbourhood Policing Team led by PC 2215 Dutton attended Ormerod Street in Accrington.

This was as a result of information received direct from the public via our “Lancashire Talking platform”.

“Officers conducted the disruption visit last night and found approximately 500 plants and a sophisticated cultivation set-up spread across all rooms within the address.

“The electricity had also been bypassed.

“An Albanian gentleman was arrested attempting to flee the property and is being interviewed by Officers this afternoon.”
