Police stumbled across £50,000 of cannabis plants inside a flat they were checking after it was ploughed into by a stolen Audi.

Officers were checking for damage following the smash in Dogpool Road when they made the unexpected discovery.

It is not believed to be connected to the crash itself – which left three injured in the early hours of Monday (September 28).

The force is now investigating the 50 cannabis plants found above the damaged shop as a separate incident.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We are investigating after about 50 cannabis plants were discovered in a flat above a shop during checks for damage to buildings on Dogpool Road following the collision.

“No arrests were made. This is being treated as a separate incident.”

The Audi, believed to be an A6, crashed after it was stolen from the Stirchley area and pursued by police.
