Four children taken to hospital after eating cannabis-laced sweets in Surrey are “not thought to have suffered any long-term ill effects”, police have said.
Yesterday Surrey Police said a girl aged 12, a 12-year-old boy and a boy of 13 suffered “a violent reaction”, which led to them vomiting uncontrollably and falling in and out of consciousness.
Officers were called by the South East Coast Ambulance Service at 2.15pm on Saturday, May 1, to the parade of shops on Pound Lane, Epsom, where the three children were found. They were taken to hospital by ambulance and another boy, aged 12, was taken to hospital by his family as a precaution because he was also believed to have eaten the sweets.
In an update, Surrey Police said: “We are now able to share that all four of the children who were taken to hospital after eating sweets which they believed contained cannabis are not thought to have suffered any long term ill-effects.
“One of the 12-year-old boys was discharged late last night, May 1, and the other three, who had suffered vomiting and other physical reactions, are expected to be released from hospital today after being kept in overnight for monitoring and observation.
“Officers are still investigating the origin of the sweets and will be speaking further with the children and their families today.”
