Police found a large bag of cannabis inside a man’s VW Polo – after he told them he only had a small amount of the drug.
Krystian Czajor was pulled over in Percy Street, Fartown, on April 4.
Prosecutor Lisa Evans said: “The officers spoke to him after he wound down his window.
“There was a strong smell of cannabis coming from inside the vehicle.
“Officers searched the vehicle and he told them he had a couple of small wraps in the car.
“A large bag of cannabis was found.”
Czajor, 33, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled drug of class B.
Following his arrest he was also charged with several motoring offences for which he has already been sentenced.
These were driving without a licence or insurance and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
He was not dealt with initially for the drug offence because police wanted to examine his phone for evidence of dealing and this took some time, his solicitor Daniel Metcalfe said.
He added: “Since his arrest he’s abstained from smoking cannabis.”
He will have pay £30 victim surcharge and the cannabis will be forfeited and destroyed.”
