Police seized four bags of cannabis when they searched a man seen ‘loitering’ outside a city centre McDonald’s .

Diego Ellis claimed he was “waiting for a girl” when officers spotted him outside the fast-food restaurant in violence-hit Dale End .

But when he lingered at the scene cops searched him and uncovered four separate bags of the Class B drug.

He was arrested following the discovery, shortly after 8pm on May 25.


Yesterday Ellis, of Woodcoat Drive, Washwood Heath, appeared before Birmingham Magistrates charged with possession of a controlled drug.

The 20-year-old appeared unrepresented and pleaded guilty to the offence.

He told the court he had the drugs for “personal use”.


Magistrates heard Ellis has no previous convictions but…
