Police have seized almost 10 kilos of explosives, a haul of counterfeit clothing and a quantity of cannabis from two homes during a crackdown on the sale of illegal fireworks.

This week, officers from Northumbria Police have been working with Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service (TWFRS) and Trading Standards officials to execute warrants ahead of Bonfire Night.

On Wednesday 6.75kg of explosives were seized from an address on Beech Grove Road, Elswick, alongside two large bags of cannabis.

On Tuesday a search of an address on Bodmin Close, in Wallsend, resulted in the seizure of a number of counterfeit clothes, perfume and 2.8kg of HT3 rockets.

Chief Inspector Nicola Wearing said the force was committed to working alongside partners to seize illegal and counterfeit items and reiterated a warning against buying illegal fireworks.
