Recreational marijuana bill clears another committee in MN HousePosted by On

A bill to legalize recreational marijuana has cleared another committee on its long journey through the Minnesota House, this time after a discussion of agriculture-industry-related issues.   Representative Paul Anderson from Starbuck asked:

“How would you prevent or discourage large corporate greenhouse-type operations from getting involved in this production?”

House Majority Leader Ryan Winkler says there are multiple approaches to help small operators develop this new business:

“And even when we have a fully-formed marketplace, we limit the number of licenses for large operators, so that we keep a balance within this industry.”

It’s generally assumed backers have the votes for the bill to pass the Minnesota House, but it will hit stiff opposition in the Senate, where Republican leaders strongly oppose legalizing marijuana for recreational use.
