SAND CITY – The results are in and it looks like the general residential population of Sand City is in support of allowing commercial cannabis activity within the city.
“We will be bringing a retail-only ordinance for the council to consider in the next couple of months,” said Aaron Blair, the city manager in Sand City.
Since December, City Council has been considering its options surrounding cannabis operations in the city, including the creation of a roadmap to gathering input from the community. Based on those results, if there is widespread support, the city would advance the idea.
The community survey participants and feedback from resident mailings and workshops were 65% residents, 22% business owners, and 13% other. The results showed that in general residents and others support allowing commercial cannabis businesses in Sand City, while business owners were split 50/50. The city’s cannabis survey garnered 54 responses with the majority, including those participating in the workshops, supporting retail cannabis.
City staff recommended the council provide direction on allowing commercial cannabis activity within the city.
There are areas of cannabis operations the city council will consider including retail, manufacturing, delivery, cultivation, testing, locations, number of permits, and a selection process.
