SAPS Lieutenant Colonel hospitalised after attack, Knysna CBD

The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile, welcomed the swift response in the arrest of those involved in an unwarranted attack on a police officer in Knysna on Friday, 13 January 2023.

Investigation into the attack reveals that the Lieutenant Colonel was in the Knysna Central Business District when he was accosted by a group of men.

He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital by a member of the public.

Video footage of the incident are also circulating on various social media platforms.

Police arrested two suspects on the afternoon of 13 January 2023, in connection with the attack.

The suspects aged 21 and 22 are facing charges of attempted murder and assault with the intent to commit grievous bodily harm. A 57-year-old man was also arrested for obstructing a member to exercise his duties.

They remain in police custody and are expected to make a court appearance on Monday, 16 January 2023.
