Six people were arrested after a cannabis factory was discovered in Smethwick.

The illegal crop was found inside a unit at the Bridge Street Trading Estate on New Year’s Eve.

Police arrested five men and a woman at the scene on suspicion on cannabis cultivation.

They have been bailed until January 27, when they will face further questioning.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “Officers carrying out enquiries at a unit in Bridge Street Trading Estate just before 1pm on New Year’s Eve discovered a cannabis factory.

Six people – five men and a woman – were at the location and arrested on suspicion of cannabis cultivation.

“The men are aged 20, 26, 27, 28 and 47 and the woman aged 48.

“All have been bailed till January 27, when they will return into police custody for more questioning.”

Anyone who suspects there is a cannabis farm in their area is urged to contact police via live chat at west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight, or call 101 anytime.

Crimestoppers can be called, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
