STANTON — While an upcoming regulatory marijuana ordinance still needs final approval from the Stanton City Commission, the city is no longer looking at limiting the number of marijuana sales locations allowed within city limits.

The City Commission voted 5-1 in March to amend its zoning ordinance to allow for recreational and medical marijuana facilities. Before marijuana businesses can begin applying for licensing and potentially opening within the city, the City Commission must first pass a regulatory ordinance that further establishes regulations and guidelines related to marijuana.
In April, the City Commission instructed Bloom Slugget attorney David Eberle to make some changes to the proposed ordinance regarding licensing fees and buffering zones.
During last week’s meeting, Commissioner Charles Miel told commissioners there was another change to the upcoming ordinances he’d like to see made — one that involves no longer limiting the number of marijuana sales locations allowed within the city. Miel’s motion passed 4-2 and not without some debate.
