A joint raid conducted by the Southern Division Task force, K9 and the Fiji Detector Dog Unit in Makoi has resulted in the discovery of substantial amount of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

Police Chief Operations Officer ACP Abdul Khan says the substances were found inside and outside the suspect’s house, and when the officers had initially approached the suspect, he threw bundles of dried leaves into a neighbour’s compound.

ACP Khan says a man in his 20s was also arrested in Suva last night. He is alleged to be involved in cases of car break-ins in Suva.

He adds further search conducted in Nanuku Settlement led to the discovery of electronic gadgets and musical instruments.

ACP Khan says as efforts continue throughout the Divisions, it is also encouraging to note increasing support from the community in working with Police to reduce crime.

He further says community support is important and it is encouraging to receive interest for the setting up of crime prevention committees.

ACP Khan highlighted that there are Divisional Managers Community Policing who can assist through their cluster Chiefs in setting up these committees.

ACP Khan says community policing efforts adopt various approaches that range from groups that are vanua, religious, sporting, family and youth based.
