A volunteer task force met with the Des Moines City Council Monday to encourage the legalization or decriminalization of marijuana.The task force presented 12 recommendations based on its studies.Among its recommendations, the task force said possession of small amounts of marijuana should be ranked as a low enforcement priority for police.The group suggested a formal statement in support of changing state laws to legalize or decriminalize the possession of marijuana for personal use.It also recommended opportunities to raise public awareness of the Iowa Medical Cannabidiol Program so that eligible residents may lawfully possess marijuana for personal use under existing state law.
