A teenager’s parents were fined for their son breaking covid rules in Worcestershire after a gang was spotted smoking cannabis in a park.

West Mercia Police officers were sent St George’s Park in Kidderminster on Friday night and spotted nine people ‘smoking cannabis’. The gang then fled from officers and police found evidence of their drug-taking in the area.

One of the gang was a 14-year-old known to police and he was found nearby and searched.

Police officers took him home and issued a fixed penalty notice – which would have been a minimum £200 fine – to his parents for their coronavirus regulations breach.

Wyre Forest Police posted on Facebook and said: “At 9:30pm on Friday, nine people that were at St George’s Park smoking cannabis, split up, and ran from officers patrolling the area.

“Drug paraphernalia was found left behind.

“A 14-year-old, that ran off, and who is already known to police for drug offences and anti-social behaviour, was found nearby and searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

“Before being taken home and a fixed penalty notice for breaching Covid-19 restrictions was given to parents.”
