The Law Office of Michael Rehm Files Public Records Act in Local Teacher Sex Abuse AllegationsPosted by On

SACRAMENTO, Calif.–()–A Public Records Act request was filed on August 17, 2022, by Sacramento Attorney Michael Rehm in the case of Glenn Alejandrino, a middle school teacher accused of multiple counts of molesting students while working at Arden Middle School in the San Juan Unified (SJU) School District. Michael Rehm, a local Sacramento attorney, represents a former student of Alejandrino. The student’s identity remains anonymous.

“Mr. Alejandrino has been teaching in the Sacramento area since 1999. According to the charges filed in court, there are multiple victims associated with inappropriate teacher-student behavior involving him. I’m asking others who may have had similar contact with Alejandrino to come forward and report any information or evidence that may be relevant,” said Rehm. “I filed a Public Records Act request to secure all personnel files pertaining to Mr. Alejandrino’s employment at Arden Middle School and Cowan Fundamental Elementary, where he was previously employed. Both schools are within the SJU School District.”

According to the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department, Alejandrino was taken into custody on July 19, 2022, on multiple felony accounts including “Lewd or Lascivious Acts with a Child Under 14, Lewd Act on Child/Victim w/More Than 10 Years Age Difference, Communicating w/Minor with Intent to Commit Sex Offense, Furnish Marijuana to Minor Under 14 Years Old, and Contribute to Delinquency of Minor and Molesting a Child Under Age 18.”

“My goal is to not only bring justice to the family but to ensure something like this never happens again,” said Rehm. “The current law in California provides that due to the compulsory nature of education, a school district has a special relationship with a child, the school has a legal duty to supervise students, and the school district can be held vicariously liable for the failure to supervise. Anytime there are multiple victims of one teacher over a period of years, it is straightforward, compelling evidence that the school was not adequately supervising.”

Mr. Alejandrino’s next court appearance is on September 15 at 8:30 am in Department 62, located inside the Main Jail in Sacramento.

Attorney Michael Rehm represents victims of sexual abuse involving teachers, or other school officials. In cases, like this, where it is a public school, the Public Records Act allows for information to be obtained about what the school knew and when, prior to the filing of a lawsuit. This information, coupled with independent investigation, can be used to obtain settlements for victims prior to going through litigation, allowing the victims to remain anonymous, even between each other, and sparing the victims of further reliving the ordeal through the court system. Attorney Michael Rehm implemented this strategy recently with a different school district and was able to obtain a $1.45 million settlement pre-litigation for his client.
