A five-storey apartment building proposed in the Joondalup city centre has been conditionally approved by the council, despite all community submissions opposing the application.
The development at 9 Tottenham Road, which is a vacant site 350m from Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City and 700m from the train station, would comprise seven apartments.
The initial proposal was for nine apartments in a six-storey building, but this was reduced after feedback from the Joondalup Design Review Panel.
All apartments would have two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a study, except one unit that would have three bedrooms, with vehicle access via McLarty Avenue and 11 resident and two visitor parking bays.

During public consultation, the City of Joondalup received 17 submissions that all objected to the proposal.
While a council report acknowledged the main concern was the proposed height not being consistent with the buildings in the immediate area, which are a maximum of three storeys, it said the proposal was “consistent with the future vision of the area”.
Under the city’s Joondalup Activity Centre Plan, which aims to “increase the urban intensity of the city centre in the next era of development”, buildings must be within four to six storeys.
