Two suspected cannabis farms and a pepper spray canister have been found in Gateshead.

Officers from Northumbria Police raided two addresses on Milling Court in Teams on Monday following reports of suspicious activity in the area.

At the first property, they found the remains of a cropped cannabis farm with one plant and a canister of an “illicit substance believed to be pepper spray”.

A 50-year-old man was arrested at the address on suspicion of possessing a prohibited weapon and the production of cannabis He has since been released under investigation.

At the second property, officers found an £18,000 cannabis haul, which was dismantled. Enquiries are ongoing to trace those involved.

Sergeant Paul Cochrane oversaw the raids and thanked the community for their ongoing support.
