Vivo Cannabis lays off dozens at Napanee facilityPosted by On

NAPANEE — About two-thirds of the workers at cannabis company Vivo Cannabis’ Napanee growing facility have been laid off as part of a company-wide restructuring.

About 40 of the roughly 60 people working at the facility on Vanluven Road have been let go. The layoffs at Vivo, formerly known as ABcann Medicinals, were part of an 18 per cent reduction of the company’s total workforce.

“Our goal is to make Vivo a stronger, more focused company by leveraging synergies between our business units and adapting to the realities of the market,” company chief executive officer Barry Fishman said in a news release. “This includes making the difficult decision to reduce our workforce, a move that was not taken lightly, and we remain grateful to all those affected for their previous efforts and contributions.”

Last year, the company completed a $30-million expansion at the Napanee facility that added three outdoor air houses.
