Vulcan Bud Supply receiving good support, says one of the cannabis store's ownersPosted by On

Vulcan’s only cannabis store has had good support from the community since opening, says one of the new business’s owners.

Vulcan Bud Supply is the newest addition to a chain of southern Alberta cannabis stores co-owned by Blaine Emelson, who grew up in the Enchant area, and two of his friends and business partners.

They started out with their Lethbridge store and have since expanded, now owning another Lethbridge store as well as one store in Fort Macleod, Claresholm, Pincher Creek, Taber and now Vulcan.

“Things are great,” Emelson said last week about the Vulcan location, which opened Sept. 3. “We’ve had good support.”

Sales continue to grow each week, he said.

Emelson says there are plans to expand further, with two more stores planned in Lethbridge, as well as a store each in Cardston, Cochrane and Chestermere, as well as possibly opening stores in other communities.

Emelson said Bud Supply has focused mostly on adding locations in small towns, figuring that, at some point, every community with a liquor store will eventually also have a cannabis store.

There is certainly still a stigma in small towns about using cannabis, with some residents wanting to be a little secretive about purchasing the now legal drug, said Emelson.

Emelson guesses customers coming to the Vulcan location were either driving to larger centres to purchase cannabis or continuing to buy it…
