A warning has been issued to Ayrshire parents after large quantities of edible cannabis disguised as sweets was seized by police.

In a communication issued to parent councils in the area, East Ayrshire’s head of education said that crooks are melting the sweets down before adding the cannabis to them before moulding them back to a familiar shape.

Its understood that the sweets take the form of Haribo, Fruit Pastilles, Skittles, Nerds, and lollipops in identical packaging.

Today, a health chief at NHS Ayrshire & Arran said effects could be profound in children.

Kids that ingest the drugs could suffer from nausea/vomiting, loss of coordination or hallucinations, Dr Joy Tomlinson said.

The statement issued to parent councils by head of education, Linda McAulay Griffiths reads as follows: “Police contacted us this morning to inform us that they are seizing large quantities of edible cannabis aimed at 11 to 17 year olds.
