This is the moment police forced their way into an Alum Rock industrial unit where they discovered a huge £1m cannabis farm.

A team of officers used an axle grinder to cut open the shutters of the premises on Parkfield Road as well as an interior door.

When they eventually gained access, they discovered 1,000 cannabis plants growing in an elaborate set-up.

The police operation, which also included the force’s dog unit, happened on Wednesday morning and four offenders were arrested.



Police found a huge cannabis crop inside a premisis

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: “We have arrested four men after carrying out a planned drugs warrant at property in Parkfield Road, Birmingham, at just after 8.30am yesterday (Wednesday).

“Officers found around 1,000 plants along with growing equipment which is all being seized, and after being forensically analysed will be destroyed.

“During a search of the property a samurai sword was also seized and this too will undergo forensic analysis.

“Two men inside the building fled onto the roof but were detained by officers. Two further man who arrived at the property were also arrested.

“Four men, aged 16, 24, 35 and 49, were arrested on suspicion of being involved in the production of cannabis.

“Three of the men remain in police custody today (Thursday) while the 49-year-old has been released under investigation as enquiries continue.”
