A dopey criminal led police to a £750,000 cannabis farm in and old bingo hall and later to a huge £3m farm in a mill, a court heard.
Chadley Smith, 32, accidentally alerted GMP to two vast cannabis farms in Blackley and Hyde, which were run by the same gang, with a third farm then discovered inside a mill in Monsall.
Police believe the three sites are some of the largest cannabis production factories ever seen in the North West.
The discovery of the farms led to the arrests of five men who have now been jailed after admitting conspiracy to produce cannabis, Manchester Crown Court heard last week.
It came about after Smith has reported being assaulted and having his van stolen in June 2018. A PCSO looked into the report but was not able to find the stolen goods.
When the officer was unable to get hold of Smith to let him know that the van could not be recovered he tried to track him down by visiting the last place he was seen, the former Astoria Bingo Hall in Hyde.
But, rather than finding the missing man, the PCSO stumbled upon a huge cannabis farm hidden in the disused building.
