HARPER WOODS, Mich. – An investigation is underway after 10 middle school students allegedly took marijuana gummies at school.

Harper Woods Director of Public Safety Jason Hammerle said it happened Thursday (Feb. 22) at Discovery Creative Pathways, a K-8 charter school.

The students involved were between the ages of 12 and 15, police said.

In a statement, Director of Public Safety Jason Hammerle said, “A student was distributing marijuana edibles to some classmates, and they became ill, which I interpreted as intoxicated. Our detectives interviewed the distributor and a parent, but unsure on charges until it is sent to the Wayne County Prosecutors Office for review. I cannot speak to what action the school may take against the student.”

Hammerle said detectives interviewed the distributor and a parent, and the case will be sent to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office to consider charges.

At least one of the students was taken to the hospital to be checked out at the request of their guardian, according to police.

Other students involved were taken home by their parents.

Phalen Leadership Academies, which manages Discovery Creative Pathways, sent a statement in response to the incident.
