Police officers in Mombasa County on
Wednesday morning conducted a crackdown on suspected muggers within the Central
Business District (CBD) and its environs.
The 11am operation was carried out by a
multi-agency team comprising of National Police Service (NPS) officers as well
as Mombasa County government askaris.
The raid led to the arrest of 140 adults and
10 juveniles, taking the total number of suspects presently being held in
custody to 150.
“Their hideouts were also destroyed and assorted
crude weapons recovered. All searched and placed in custody appearing fit and
will be arraigned in court tomorrow morning,” read a police report seen by
Citizen Digital.
The suspects were nabbed in various areas
including Uhuru Gardens, Makadara Grounds, Mama Ngina, Jalaram feeding centre
(railway roundabout), Docks roundabout, and Mbaraki cemetery.
