An Albanian man who was found growing cannabis worth up to £76,000 at a house on Teesside has been put behind bars.

Police found Ruzhdie Raga, who had come to the UK illegally, at a three bedroom property in Hartlepool surrounded by 91 cannabis plants.

Paul Newcombe, prosecuting, told Teesside Crown Court how officers attended the address on Collingwood Road after receiving information.

He said the defendant was present and a search of the house revealed three cannabis grows.

Mr Newcombe told the court: “Three rooms were devoted to the growing of cannabis. The usual equipment was found to assist the plants growing.

“91 cannabis plants in total. 42 in one room, 42 in another room and seven in a smaller room.”

Mr Newcombe said the plants had the potential to produce between two and a half and seven and a half kilos of cannabis.

He told the court that, depending on the yield and various ways of selling the drug, they would be worth approximately between £25,000 and £76,000.
