A cannabis farm worth up to £414,000 was found in Hartlepool after members of the community reported concerns.

Police raided the property on Wednesday and found 500 plants in the property on Raby Road in the Dyke House area of the town.

It came after people in the local areas raised concerns about suspected drugs activity at the former takeaway.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and he remains in police custody.

Neighbourhood Inspector Martin Skirving-Chehab said: “Today’s discovery of 500 cannabis plants shows the local community that we do act upon their information and we are tackling drugs activity in the town.

“This haul of drugs will no longer make it onto the town’s streets and one male is currently in police custody.”
