A cannabis farmer, who was found with £77,000 worth of the illegal drug, was also found to have sick child abuse images.

Nezir Slemaj appeared at Newcastle Crown Court earlier this month where he was sentenced to 16 months behind bars.

The 20-year-old first came to the attention of police when his home on Northcote Street, Newcastle was searched by officers back in August last year. A total of 68 mature cannabis plants and 134 others at various stages of growth were seized alongside equipment valued at around £10,000.

When Slemaj was arrested, two mobile phones were also recovered and examined, and detectives later uncovered a range of horrific indecent images and videos.

Slemaj was later charged and appeared at Newcastle Crown Court on December 16 where he was convicted of three counts of making indecent photographs of children, one count of possessing extreme pornography and producing a Class B drug and was remanded in custody. And on March 16, he was sentenced at the same court to a total of 16 months behind bars, given a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years.
