A carer turned to cocaine and cannabis after he became part of a love triangle – between his best friend and partner of seven years.
Macauley Hulme got behind the wheel of his friend’s Vauxhall Astra despite having no licence or insurance.
And the drug driver was more than six times over the limit when he was stopped on Thorntree Road in Thornaby.

The 24-year-old appeared at Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday to face four charges.
Prosecutor Paul Doney outlined how it was around 3pm on April 16 when a police officer spotted Hulme driving a blue Vauxhall Astra.
Hulme pulled over into a parking bay and the officer approached the vehicle asking if he had a driving licence.
The defendant replied ‘no’.
A drugwipe was also carried out on the car and indicated a positive reading of cocaine.
Hulme was arrested and taken to the police station where a blood sample was taken.
It showed the defendant had delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) – the active substance in cannabis – not less than 3.6 micrograms.
He also tested positive for benzoylecgonine, a breakdown product of cocaine, not less than 365 microgrammes – with the legal limit being 50 microgrammes per litre of blood.
Mr Doney added that Hulme has one “relevant” previous conviction in May 2018.
