OPINION: Jacinda Ardern shows every sign of being a liberal.

She’s voted for same-sex marriage, euthanasia legalisation, and pushed forwards the liberalisation of abortion laws in Government.

On the drug front, she pushed for medicinal cannabis both in Government and Opposition, supports drug testing in festivals, and has all-but admitted to trying pot herself.

Jacinda Ardern does not really get to have political privacy.

Jacinda Ardern does not really get to have political privacy.

In 2011 she openly queried whether police were wasting time pursuing minor cannabis offences and praised a UN report that said drugs were being overly-criminalised, directly linking this to the over-representation of Māori in New Zealand prisons.
