The frustrating congestion in Pretoria CBD caused by taxis is finally coming to an end. The City of Tshwane has plans to clean up the messy traffic.
MESSY TSHWANE CBD TRAFFIC A PROBLEM
Driving through some of the main roads in the inner capital city can leave one highly frustrated. This is because of the congestion of taxis which stop mid-road to wait and load passengers.
But the cause is the influx of minibus taxis in the inner city. Another contributing factor is the unique physical, spatial road network and economic characteristics, MMC for Roads and Transport Dikeledi Selowa said.
“This, combined with normal city traffic, has resulted in traffic congestion challenges within the Pretoria CBD, particularly during peak hours.”

But the City of Tshwane has finally put a plan in place. The local taxi industry along with the municipality will form a joint committee to create a clean, decongested and crime-free Tshwane.
