The Simpson County Fiscal Court met on April 16 beginning with a call to order by Judge-Executive Mason Barnes and opening prayer by Sam Phillips, the county’s attorney. Sandy Simpson from U.S. Representative James Comer’s office was in attendance and acknowledged by Judge Barnes.
Minutes of the April 2 meeting were reviewed and approved, as well as second readings and passages of the FY 23/24 budget ordinance, the Windsor Park Lighting agreement ordinance, and a zone ordinance. The court also approved two authorizations for advertising — one for asphalt bids and one for rock bids. Both are due by May 17.
Discussion was held regarding public works equipment purchases of a trailer and pressure washer for the road department. Public works director Bobby Groves explained how the two pieces of equipment, the Gatormade 44,000 pound equipment trailer and Aladdin Steam pressure washer will be paid for.
“It was not budgeted,” said Groves, “but because of some savings earlier in the year, we actually have money in that line for equipment purchases and we cover it.” The court approved the purchase of both pieces of equipment.
Financial business was addressed by the court including budget transfers, a cash transfer of $7,590.79 from the federal grant fund to the general fund, bills and claims, and the March 31 financial statement….
