When Sterling Wilde was on the street, there was one thing he could never find: a pair of clean socks.

After he got off the street and became a cannabis activist, he decided there was one thing that always improved his day: a joint.

Since 2018, Wilde has married his past and his passion by handing out hundreds of socks and pre-rolled joints in a Saskatoon charity event like no other, aptly called TubeZ and DubeZ.

“It’s about starting that conversation. A five-minute conversation can turn your whole day around,” Wilde said.

Last Saturday, hundreds of pairs of socks and joints were handed out in a parking lot in Pleasant Hill.

No formal organization runs the event, but he and friends were able to raise about $4,000 for socks and solicited enough donations to roll hundreds of joints, Wilde said. They also handed out soup and ordered special face masks made of hemp for the event.
