House bill determines who can sell medical marijuana Jan. 1 | NewsPosted by On

FRANKFORT, KY — The state of Kentucky will begin selling medical marijuana starting Jan. 1, 2025.

However, a House bill signed this week will determine who is licensed to sell it based on a lottery.

House Bill 829 lets businesses start applying for licenses to sell medical marijuana beginning in January.

The bill divides Kentucky into 11 districts, and four licenses will be dispensed within each region.

Lexington and Louisville will get more than the others and receive six licenses.

The bill divides Kentucky into 11 districts, each receiving four licenses to dispense medical marijuana in that region. If more than four dispensaries apply within a district, licenses will be divided randomly.

Lexington and Louisville are exceptions and are receiving six licenses.

The goal of the bill is to spread access to medical marijuana across the state.
