If I were to tell you that some people were releasing a product that would cause brain damage in young people, that they were doing it for money, and that they were deliberately doing it in a way that would disproportionately damage youths in Black and Latino communities, what would you think? Wouldn’t you say they must be horrible racist monsters?

Actually, it’s the Connecticut state Legislature.

Human brains keep developing until the age of 25, and it’s generally accepted that marijuana use damages the developing brains of those under 25 in many ways, weakening their judgment and decision-making abilities, their creative development, memory, attention span and concentration.


And the state Legislature has now legalized marijuana.

Does anyone think that legalization and open selling won’t increase its use? Doesn’t that mean that more young people will be using it than before, and more young people will never be the human beings they could have been?

Do the legislators care? No, they talk about the increased income taxing marijuana will bring the state. Who cares about the young lives?

Even worse, as the Post phrased it in a recent editorial, the “communities ravaged for decades by the War on Drugs will get first shot at licenses for growing and selling the product.” Which means that the new stores and growers will…
