Jewellery made from origami and inspired by the sea will be among WA-made accessories available at a CBD market this weekend.

The Locally Adorned market aims to give small batch jewellery and accessory makers a platform to compete against big brand chains and international online retailers.

These include husband and wife Louise and Glen Cowans, who have combined their skills to create 3D earrings and necklaces under their Sea Drops Jewellery brand.

Mr Cowans is an underwater photographer who scuba dives around the world to capture the ocean’s beauty.

Mrs Cowans picks the best images which are then laminated on to glass and embedded on to jewellery findings.

“Forty-seven years ago, I was never one to venture into the water — back then I couldn’t even swim — but Glen changed that and introduced me to the underwater world,” Mrs Cowans said.

“This then progressed to freediving and eventually scuba diving. Now I get to share the beauty found within the ocean with others.”

Fellow creator Amiia Nguyen creates ear adornments with origami.

Her Ms Amiia earrings are created by carefully folding delicate paper according to her hand-sketched designs and treating the origami creations with a sealant and lacquer.

Each pair can take up to four hours to complete.
