Starting Monday, the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority is hitting the brakes on new businesses.Twelve different medical marijuana bills were recently signed into law, cracking down on what some have called the wild west of weed.Starting next week, new dispensaries and grow operations must be at least 1,000 feet away from schools. But there won’t be any new businesses licensed for some time. “It was easy. You pay $2,500 and you can open your business pretty much anywhere,” said Corbin Wyatt, owner of Likewise Dispensary. Some dispensary owners think the moratorium will be indefinite.”Until the OMMA either feels that they are able to control everything and it’s an opportune time to issue new licenses, but most people are saying, that won’t ever come,” Wyatt said.That means if a marijuana business application comes in after August 1, tough luck.“The OMMA director can end that if they feel the time is right,” he said.
