Police arrived at a “sophisticated” cannabis farm in a residential street shortly after a gang had raided the property, a court has heard.

Officers had responded to reports of a disturbance and possible burglary at the house – and instead found a drug growing-operation which had taken over the whole property.

Police also found a Vietnamese national who had been working as a gardener in the plantation and who said he had just been assaulted by the raiders.

Swansea Crown Court heard that just before 6am on August 4 this year police received calls from people living in Pentregethin Road in the Ravenhill area of the city reporting that there appeared to be a burglary taking place.

Dean Pulling, prosecuting, said residents described hearing a disturbance and seeing four men “driving away quickly” from the property in a panel van and another man leaving on foot by jumping over a garden fence.
