Rankin County deputies seize 130 pounds of marijuanaPosted by On

RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Rankin County deputies seized 130 pounds of high grade marijuana.

Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey said deputies stopped a commercial vehicle transport on Interstate 20 on Friday, January 19. During the stop, deputies said they became suspicious of one of the vehicles on the transport.

Bailey said during a consensual search of the vehicle, deputies and canines found the marijuana in duffel bangs in the trunk of the vehicle.

According to the sheriff, a preliminary investigation suggested that the marijuana originated in California. Deputies contacted law enforcement in that state, and the investigation is ongoing.

Bailey said the driver of the commercial vehicle was not charged and did not have knowledge of the drugs being in one of the vehicles he was transporting.

The street value of the marijuana is $390,000.
