Senate falls short in effort to force debate on Medicaid expansionPosted by On

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – The Kansas Senate on Friday morning fell short in an effort to force floor debates on Medicaid expansion and medical marijuana.

The vote was 18-17 on a motion that would have pulled the Medicaid expansion bill out of committee and onto the floor for debate.

A total of at least 24 votes were needed to force the floor vote.

Also on Friday, the Senate fell short on a similar effort to force debate on a bill legalizing medical marijuana. That vote failed by a vote of 12 to 25.

WIBW-TV’s Callie Holthaus is at the Statehouse and will have more on these developments later Friday.
