The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office has been outspoken about its issues with toxic illegal marijuana sites in the county for years now. Chinese illegal pesticides, environmental damage, and human trafficking are just a few of the many problems that have risen, ever since the legalization of recreational marijuana in 2016. Sheriff LaRue says the black market has since grown, with illegal cannabis plants now making their way into licensed dispensaries.

We also spoke with Sheriff LaRue, who directed a clear message to California Gov. Newsom.

It’s really in the hands in the Governor Newsom, I wanna be a strong partner with him and his administration just to deal with this issue. I think at this point, politics aside, its just a disaster that i think we need to remedy. So I ask again that he help us out and just address it with some strength… ”

Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office released a press release on Earth Day, calling on Newsom to establish an ‘Illegal Marijuana Cultivation Site Remediation Fund’.

It reads as follows:
