The council approved an ordinance July 27 that bans cannabis establishments, distributors, delivery services and microbusinesses from operating in the township.
“Once we don’t make a decision then we’ve made one for five years,” Councilwoman Josephine “Jo” Hochman said. “We’re not saying no one is ever going to change their mind again or there will never be anything, but what we’re saying is this has happened so quickly, and we can’t just rush into it.”
As far as people going elsewhere to buy marijuana, Hochman said, “it’s not involving that much money that we’re losing.”
“It’s not going to make much of a change to our budget,” she said. “There’s too many things that happened all at one time and we’re going to go the safe route.”
Under the ordinance, cannabis testing facilities and independent entities that meet accreditation requirements established by the Cannabis Regulatory Commission that are licensed to analyze and certify cannabis items for compliance with applicable health, safety and potency standards, are permitted, subject to township code requirements.
