Vireo Health International Inc. will open four new medical cannabis retail sites in Minnesota by the end of the year, bringing the company’s total number of dispensaries in the state to eight.

Hermantown, Blaine, Woodbury and Burnsville will each be home to new sites. People enrolled in Minnesota’s medical cannabis program can access Vireo’s stores, and they belong to a program that’s seen steady growth since the Legislature approved it in 2014.

Vireo chose Hermantown, Blaine, Woodbury and Burnsville because they’re home to larger populations that don’t have convenient access to dispensaries, said Vireo CEO and founder Kyle Kingsley.

The company was previously restricted to having dispensaries in only four of Minnesota’s congressional districts, while its competitor, LeafLine Labs LLC., had sites in the other congressional districts.
