What gardai discovered during one of the drugs-related searches in South Kerry

CLOSE on €4,000 worth of suspected cannabis plants and herb, along with a small quantity of suspected cocaine, was seized by gardai as part of an intensive operation on Wednesday and Thursday.

Operation Thor was a day of action conducted in the Caherciveen, Waterville, Caherdaniel and Valentia areas over a 24-hour period and it was led by officers attached to the Killarney District, members of the Kerry Roads Policing Unit, Kerry Divisional Drug Unit and the Southern Region Dog Unit.

One part of the operation, on Thursday, saw a 9.00am briefing in Caherciveen Garda Station followed by searches of six houses in Waterville, Caherdaniel and Caherciveen and that led to the discovery of what gardai believe to be cocaine and cannabis.

Operation Thor also involved a series of checkpoints and proactive patrols over the past two days

No arrests have been made but gardaí are following a definite line of inquiry in each incident.

Superintendent Flor Murphy of Killarney Garda Station said the operation reflects the commitment of An Garda Siochana to tackle illegal drugs activity in the South Kerry area.
